The importance of learning a foreign language
Some people think there is no need to learn foreign languages. Personally, I don’t agree with that.
Learning a new language would help you to adapt and, also, understand the others when you are travelling, even if you aren’t abroad. In my experience, when I went to the north of Portugal, there were many tourists that I could talk to and help because I can speak a foreign language and when I went to France I had to adapt since no one knew how to speak my mother language.
There are other reasons why it is so important to learn a foreign language, for example, if you know more than your mother tongue it gets registered in your curriculum vitae (CV), it increases your employability. Another reason for the importance of learning a foreign language is that you become smarter by improving the functionality of your brain by challenging it to recognise the meaning, and communicate in different language systems. Also, a study from Spain’s University of Pompeu Fabra revealed that multilingual people are better at observing their surroundings, what means you become more perceptive.
After reading that by learning a foreign language you can understand and adapt more easily when travelling, that you can improve your curriculum vitae, that you become smarter and more perceptive, I am sure you will agree that speaking more than one language helps you improve in every way.
